Firm Background & Legacy

Founded in Boston in 1929, Woodstock was established to manage the financial affairs of William A. Paine, founder of Paine Webber & Company. Named for the Woodstock, Connecticut, home of Paine’s father, the firm grew through long-standing client relationships built on trust.

Today, Woodstock remains privately held, with stable ownership and leadership that are increasingly uncommon in the wealth management industry. That history reflects disciplined decision-making and client relationships spanning generations, supported by a firm structure designed to serve our clients as their needs evolve.

“The great thing in business is to know what you want to do. Then do it.”

Investment Philosophy

Woodstock’s investment philosophy centers on disciplined research, long-term growth, and careful risk management. We build portfolios security by security and our team manages them directly, allowing investment decisions to reflect individual client objectives and prevailing market conditions.

The portfolio management team conducts its own research while drawing on their extensive knowledge of key industry sectors and changing market environments. This process supports careful capital allocation and portfolio adjustments solidly based on underlying fundamentals. We make decisions with a long-term perspective, not in reaction to short-term headlines.

Client Relationships

Woodstock works with individuals and families whose financial lives warrant sustained attention and sound judgment. Our client relationships are structured around direct, ongoing involvement from experienced portfolio managers, ensuring consistency in investment decisions.

This structure supports our clients’ objectives while allowing investment strategy to adjust as circumstances change, including evolving family priorities and liquidity considerations.

Independence & Fiduciary Responsibility

Woodstock is privately held and independently operated. We are not driven by sales targets or third-party commercial interests. This structure assures investment and advisory decisions remain focused solely on client objectives. As a fiduciary, we act in your best interests.

This independence supports clear judgment about how we allocate capital, manage risk, and communicate with you. Decisions are made carefully, with long-term outcomes in mind, not short-term results.
